WHAT IS THE CUDDLE COT CAMPAIGN?

Six babies are stillborn in Australia every day.

That's an astonishing number, isn’t it?! Six parents are left with their world shattered. Six extended families shocked and devastated at their loss and as to how to support their loved one through the most unimaginable grief. Six maternity wards full of screaming babies while one is born silently. At least six midwives supporting the grieving parents while their own hearts ache; six babies too beautiful for earth.⁣⁣⁣

Our son was stillborn in 2012. We were newlyweds, oblivious to the scary statistics around pregnancy. We were young, healthy, fit, and our results all showed low risk factors - what could possibly go wrong?!

A scan revealed our fear and we were admitted into the maternity ward to be induced. The same ward with all the joyous parents and screaming newborns. It was Thursday the 19th September 2012 and Buddy was silently born into our word on Sunday the 22nd of September, 2012.⁣⁣⁣

Being in the emergency services, we were familiar with the hospital and its morgue. My heart rebroke when the midwife explained to me that they needed to take him to the hospital morgue to await the funeral directors.⁣⁣⁣

Logistically, losing a baby is horrific.

One parent physically recovering from birth, the other trying desperately to be strong to support their partner through the delivery. Saying hello, and then goodbye, within moments. Allowing the midwife to finally take that precious baby away to the cold, scary morgue. Away from those who love him. Walking out of those front doors, arms empty and heart broken.⁣⁣⁣

INTRODUCING BEARS OF HOPE CUDDLE COTS

A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that lays beneath the baby within a bassinet. It enables families to keep their baby close and create beautiful memories, spending as much time as they wish with their baby, before saying goodbye. This reduces the trauma of handing their precious baby to staff to cool in a traditional morgue.⁣⁣⁣

We are donating $20 from every Buddy Pack sold to the Cuddle Cot Campaign by Bears of Hope Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support.⁣⁣⁣

Brad and I wish that this had have been an option for us when Buddy was born.
